Revolutionary
     War

Historical societies throughout central New Hampshire regard the Revolutionary War as a pivotal moment because it was the conflict through which the ideals of independence were tested, defended, and ultimately secured.

New Hampshire communities played an active role by raising militias, supplying troops and materials, and supporting key leaders who contributed to the colonial war effort. The war profoundly shaped daily life, local economies, and political structures, as towns shifted from royal authority to self-governance.

Nationally, the Revolutionary War determined whether the principles proclaimed in 1776 would endure, resulting in the creation of an independent republic.

For New Hampshire, the war represents the moment when local sacrifice and collective action helped forge both state identity and the foundation of the United States.
