Sutton

Sutton, in western Merrimack County, New Hampshire, had a population of 1,978 at the 2020 census and includes the villages of Sutton Mills, North Sutton, South Sutton, and East Sutton. North Sutton is home to Wadleigh State Park on Kezar Lake.

Originally granted in 1749 as "Perrystown," settlement was delayed by the French and Indian War until 1767. Regranted in 1784, the town was named Sutton after settlers from Sutton, Massachusetts. In 1981, Sutton was the site of the world’s first paintball facility, operated by one of the sport’s inventors.

The town covers 43.3 square miles, mostly land, and is drained by the Warner, Lane, and Cascade Rivers, connecting to the Merrimack and Connecticut River watersheds. The highest point is Kings Hill at 1,930 feet. Major roads include Interstate 89 and New Hampshire Route 114.
